Detail, Vase, Bombay pottery: The students of Sir J.J. School of Art, then known as the Bombay School of Art, created the museum’s collection of vases titled Bombay Pottery. The vessels are a hybrid of classical Greek and Roman shapes, glaze learnt by Sind artisans, scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana mixed with European motifs, and colouring suggestive of the Ajanta frescoes.
