Dr. Bhau Daji Lad [Ramakrishna Vitthal Lad], after whom the museum was renamed in 1975 was the first Indian Sheriff of Mumbai, a philanthropist, historian, physician, surgeon and secretary of the founding Museum Committee (1822 – 74).
